What is Involved When You Get Clear Braces

When your smile is crooked and misaligned, your confidence isn’t where it should be. After all, your smile is one of the first things people will notice when they see you. However, if you’re an adult and have been putting off orthodontic work because of the price and the fact that you don’t want to spend years in clunky metal braces, you need to consider Invisalign. Choosing the Invisalign Gilbert procedure will fit you with clear braces that are nearly invisible to the naked eye but still do an amazing job of straightening the teeth.

The Consultation

Before you can be fitted for the braces, you’ll meet with a local orthodontist. The orthodontist will take a panoramic x-ray of your mouth to determine the best plan for your orthodontic work. You will then sit with the orthodontist to mutually create a plan that will get you the best smile of your life. During the consultation, you’ll also discuss payment options and insurance.

Fitting and Impressions

Once you’ve created an orthodontic plan with your orthodontist, they will make impressions of your teeth that will be sent off to a dental lab. The dental lab will custom create a clear set of braces based on your impression and the plans the orthodontist has made. The clear braces are then shipped back to the orthodontist and will be given to you to wear regularly.

Wearing the Braces

The clear braces can be removed at virtually any time, but in order for your teeth to straighten, you need to wear them at least 22 hours a day. You can remove the braces while eating and brushing your teeth. If you fail to wear the braces often enough, your treatment will be extended, and your teeth may not straighten in the manner that the orthodontist intended. You should expect the braces to feel tight and for your mouth to be sore while they’re being worn.

Routine Appointments

The first clear braces given to you is just one out of the many that will be made for you. As treatment progresses, you’ll be given different braces that are made using additional impressions. It is crucial that you make all of your orthodontic appointments to avoid the treatment being prolonged. If you cannot make a specific appointment, try to schedule it for another day so that you do not fall too far behind.

Retaining a Beautiful Smile

After treatment is done and the clear braces are finally removed, your teeth will, unfortunately, not stay that way forever. In fact, the teeth will begin to shift out of place within a matter of days of the braces being removed. Because of this, your orthodontist will fit you with a retainer, which will need to be worn at night several times a week for the rest of your life. While this might seem a bit prolonged, it is the only way to maintain the results you achieved when going for braces.
