The Powertrain Plant produces BMW Group’s latest generation of 3 and 4 cylinder engines and latest Gen 5 high-voltage batteries. BBA applies leading-edge manufacturing technologies and processes to produce high-quality premium products in the most efficient, flexible and sustainable way, and it continues to develop its capabilities together with its partners. In 2019, BBA became the first automobile manufacturer in the world to enable full 5G wireless coverage at all its plants. With 5G, BBA is testing numerous digital innovations that have the potential to further increase efficiency, quality and sustainability in production. In the coming years, BBA will further expand its production footprint in Shenyang through significant investment in new and existing plant structures. Construction projects include major expansions of the Dadong and Tiexi plants and an extension of the R&D Center with new testing infrastructure.

As BBA continues to grow, it does so with the aspiration to be the leading sustainable provider of premium individual mobility across the entire value chain of China’s automotive industry. By integrating sustainable practices throughout its operations and cascading these practices to its suppliers, BBA is actively lowering CO2 emissions, reducing waste and promoting sustainable development along the value chain. The joint venture continues to lower its fleet emissions through BMW Group’s Efficient Dynamics strategy and by launching more New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) into the market. It’s growing portfolio of NEVs is underpinned by BMW’s holistic e-mobility ecosystem in China, which ranges from battery and powertrain development through to BMW Charging infrastructure and a comprehensive NEV sales and service network. In 2019, BBA was ranked first in China’s Automotive Enterprise Green Development Index. It uses 100% renewable electricity in its Shenyang production base and retained its National Green Plant status in 2019.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is an integral part of BBA’s sustainable development strategy. Guided by its philosophy “Going Beyond Sales Performance and Profitability with Social Development at Our Core”, BMW CSR leverages BMW’s core strengths and range of stakeholders to solve real social problems, create shared value and contribute to Chinese society. Since 2007, BMW China Culture Journey has been exercising BMW’s brand influence to preserve and promote Chinese traditional culture and integrate intangible cultural heritage into modern life. Introduced in 2005, BMW Children’s Traffic Safety Education (CTSE) has established 35 CTSE Ambassador Training Bases and an online platform dedicated to children’s road safety in China. BMW Warm Heart Fund (WHF), established in 2008, was the first corporate public welfare fund in China's automotive industry. In 2020, it donated 10 million RMB and established a partnership with the China Education Development Foundation (CEDF). BMW CSR also donated 35 million RMB to support Chinese society’s fight against COVID-19 following the outbreak in early 2020.

Guided by BMW’s customer-centric approach, BBA is dedicated to providing a premium service experience to its customers in China and has a leading reputation for customer satisfaction among premium auto brands. The joint venture is also steadfast in its commitment to supporting and developing the businesses of its dealer partners. At the end of 2020, there were 666 BMW dealer outlets throughout China.

As one of China’s leading premium automotive manufacturers, BBA will continue on its high-quality growth path by expanding its development and production footprint, strengthening its end-to-end value chain, introducing more technology-leading products, and creating value for its stakeholders. BBA and its management team believes that a business is only successful if it creates a sustainable future and makes a positive impact on the world. As a responsible corporate citizen of China, the joint venture is fully committed to developing local talent, creating jobs and supporting the economic prosperity of Shenyang, Liaoning province and Northeast China. It will continue to integrate responsible and sustainable practices throughout its entire value chain, contribute positively to Chinese society and provide its customers with the premium quality products and services that the BMW brand stands for.
